A study for learning how to depict iridescence in natural objects like this butterfly, beetles, peacock feather, metallic berries, etc. Still not getting it so far.

Also, it was just a feel-good piece to finally get this half-done eyesore out of the way, and doing something purely for self-enjoyment.

All in all it's basically procrastination, lol!

Oil on wood board.

It's a material study. It's very reflective, and the matte metal surface it sat on added to that light show.

Long Way Home by YSLiao
Long Way Home
The musk oxen are painted from the diorama display from the AMNH's North American Mammal Hall. I chose this diorama because the oxen slowly marching out of a snow storm seemed like they were on a long, determined march to greener, unfrozen pastures.

H 15" x W 16.5" x D 2", canvas on wooden stretcher. Acrylics.

Isn't it odd that backing out of a long weekend, group trip to lake with fall foliage should hail relief, and the thought of painting alone in my basement is looked forward to? That's not normal, is it? I guess after all these years of trying, it's just pointless to keep trying to pretend to be normal.

Nah it was someone cooking with too much smoke I say. But since we all had to stand outside in the cold, a couple classmates invited me to hit the pub down the street with them. It was good to make some connection, and I'm slowly getting used to the idea of doing that over a pint. Slower than most to trust though... Right now I'm trying to finish up as much as possible before all Hell breaks down on me.

How are you feeling?

I try to do my best, while taking care of work first... Try doing something outside that gives back to communities. It usually helps you feel better, and you're helping other people out too! :)

I live and work in NJ at the moment, but I regularly visit NYC during weekends for races with the NYRR. How about we grab coffee the next time I go to the city for a race?
